DU Chatroom Saturday, May 10, 2008

Welcome to join our weekly Saturday Chatroom! May, 10, 2008, at 9am EST (or 10am CST, or 4pm GMT, or 6pm Ukraine time).

The topic of discussion this time will be-

War and Peace

Human nature is very contradictory. Calling to morality and humanity, man is performing the most immoral and inhuman acts on the earth. Traditionally, on May, 9 Ukraine and other FSU countries are celebrating the Victory Day. 63 years ago the WWII (or the Great Patriotic War as it was called according to the Soviet ideology) was finished for the Soviet Union. Since that, May, 9 was always marked red in our calendars. This is an example and commemoration of the last biggest and freshest in mind war of the XX century. But before (and after it) there were thousands wars and military conflicts. It seems obvious that “war experience” and a strong desire not to allow its repetition lasts only during the life time of a couple of generations who came through it. Then it turns into another date in the course of history…

In the “War and Peace” chat we will discuss the problems and nature of conflicts in our life and ways of dealing with them. With your help we will try to figure out why the human nature is so aggressive and violent sometimes, is it possible to live without conflicting, and can “wise” adults form “right” worldview of their children to these issues?
