The Monument to Toad was erected on the Golay Pier in Kherson region. The idea to establish such unusual monument appeared on the eve of celebration the 229 anniversary of the city of Kherson.
It was announced the contest on the best reproduction of Ukrainian vice among the local habitants. As the result of public voting it was found that the misfortunes of Ukrainian nation are greed and envy. These characteristics describe the meaning of toad in Ukrainian folklore.
The sculpture of Ukrainian toad of 200 kg weight was made from improvised materials such as foam plastic, cement and paints. There is one more monument which stands on the embankment of Kherson, called the Monument to Mermaid, as the symbol of woman’s beauty.
There are number of interesting monuments in the cities of Ukraine. On the first of June, the Children Defense Day, the Monument to Happy Childhood was erected in Berdyansk.
