Something You Should Know
Something You Should Know
by Yulia Puchko

It's very important for everybody who's planning to come to Ukraine.
img10.jpgYou've always wanted to come to Ukraine, eventually you've planned your trip, packed your suitcase and anticipating an exciting experience. But there are some things you should know and be prepared, otherwise it can spoil your vocation and put you in stress.

1. First of all, to have a person who'll meet you at the airport is a way of avoiding worrying, problems and misunderstanding. Anyway, it would be helpful to have an assistant. If you don't speak Russian, it's most likely to have an interpreter who will assist you.

2. You should know where you're going to stay, I mean you should have an address. At the airport you'll be given a document where you must put it down even if the address changes later.

3. If you can avoid it, don't declare things at the customs. Remember that you can bring to Ukraine declared goods (such as jewelry, technical appliances, etc.) for the total cost of 200 euros. If their cost is more, you'll have to pay a fee. You can bring a laptop, a phone and a camera with you without paying for it. If you have new technical appliances, make them look used: take them out of box, make sure there'sno price on them, otherwise the tax is required.

4. You need a place to stay. Hotels are unreasonably expensive and not really cozy. The cheapest room is 50 bucks and I can say it's even scary to be here. More expensive rooms are a little bit more comfortable.

But if you didn't see this apartment before, make sure that while you are looking at it, the taxi is waiting for you, ?cause very possible you'll want to see more apartments to choose. Every apartment should at least have cold and HOT water, new sheets (two sets), clean fresh towels, a bar of soap, matches, dishes, salt, sugar.

6. I know it's not fair but pretty often people would take more money from the foreigners, so let your assistant or interpreter make bargain about prices.

Hope this tips will be of assistance to you to shun inconveniences and totally enjoy your vocation. Welcome.
