Beauty Contest In Kharkov
by Anastasiya Chuiko, a contestant of Miss Kharkov 2006.
Beautiful symbols for beautiful city - The motto of the contest
The competition of beauty and elegance Miss Kharkov is one of the programs of Ukrainian Youth project Modern health-improving systems, advanced information technologies and standards for imitation
Miss Kharkov contest is a component part of the city cultural life. The contest has the support of the Culture Administration of Kharkov city council.
Miss Kharkov contest corporation offers purposeful creation of modern standards for youth to follow: an active, well-educated, spiritually developed personality, oriented to success in professional career and private life, that believes in his/her own powers, prefers healthy life style and loves her/his city, country and culture.
The contest consisted of selection, preliminary and final rounds during 10 months. More than 800 competitors at the age from 16 to 24 participated in the selection rounds. Having been interviewed, 26 participants were selected for the preliminary rounds. In the
preliminary rounds the girls had to prove that they love and know their city; lead healthy life-style, believe in their own powers, that they are intellectually and physically developed, photogenic, imposing, active and certainly beautiful.
In the Miss Intellect round the participants had a chance to demonstrate both - their beautiful appearance, and also their literacy and smartness. A round contained IQ-tests and questions about Kharkov and Slobozhansky region history.
Miss Kharkov should be a modern girl, well-informed in terminology, styles and tendency of club life, to be able to behave in relaxed manner, be humorous, and to be in the center of everybody's attention. Miss Clubs round helped to discover these qualities in the participants.
Miss Podium Round allowed the girls to show their model talents. The competitors demonstrated defile skills and also their ability to present and to feel comfortable in different styles clothes.
In Miss TV Round portliness, self-possession and ability to behave in front of a TV camera were tested. Besides, the participants tried themselves in the roles of program directors and TV show's hosts.
Miss Hostess Round gave the girls an opportunity to demonstrate their art of cookery.
Miss Grace round was called a pearl of the contest. In a choreographic sketch every participant showed gracefulness of her movements, the slenderness of her figure, as well as her skills in hair-styling, using make-up and selecting clothes to match her personality.
According to tradition, Miss Press and Miss Photo Rounds summed up preliminary rounds. Press representatives examined 9 finalists in their compliance with a beautiful symbol of Kharkov and leading photographers estimated how photogenic the contestants were.
Preparation to the final show was going on during a month, alternating in photograph, rehearsals, performance, radio-interviews and active rest. This period gave lots of positive emotions. However, organization and management of the final show left the feeling of resentment. The final show was turned into a closed, no admittance event. The final decision seemed to come up as an arrangement between the jury, and the contest organizers... In a few days after the final, the winner was rewarded in the city central square. The result was not a surprise, because it had been agreed some time before.
What about me personally, I was glad to have a chance to participate and come to the final. Though I did not become a Miss Kharkov, I got much more from the contest than I had expected. And I am not counting on future in model' business- magazines covers, commercials etc. Looking into my recent experiences, I can state that this year has been very productive for me. Preparation, participating in the rounds, communicating with interesting people, experiencing ups and downs, and
having a chance to show and test my powers √ all these influenced my looks on life, and helped me to mature. The various stages of the competition encouraged me to strive for self-perfection, enabled me to evaluate myself from a new viewpoint and drew me to make proper conclusions about myself.
During the contest I watched professional producers, musicians, operators and photographers working with us. The creative environment inspired me. It played a crucial role in the choice of my future profession, it brought me to final decision - to become a variety producer.
Besides spiritual enrichment, the contest had an effect on my circle of acquaintances. What can be more valuable than friendship! The words of a song are not accidental: it is better to have a hundred friends rather than a hundred roubles. The intercourse with interesting people was absolutely priceless.
Life is wonderful! I am looking ahead into my future with great interest! How much new and unexplored is waiting for me, how many obstacles I will meet on my way, be it accents or collapses, triumphs or defeats. I am full of determination to challenge my destiny.
