Jazz Festival, Koktebel
Jazz @ The Speed Of Light From Koktebel, Crimea

by Irina Timchenko and Vadim Naboikin

My husband and I could not hide our excitement when we were on our way to Koktebel this year, for we were hoping to hear the world-renowned jazz musicians perform live on the main stage of the festival. But our excitement had no limits when we saw them play together with other jazz celebrities in remote studios across Europe connected via the Internet. The amazing technological innovation of high-speed Internet became an exciting accomplishment to the wonderful environment of the musical event, and to the beauty of picturesque seaside area. The cocktail of sounds, colors and magnificent scents of the early autumn could not
leave anybody indifferent.

Koktebel, a small seaside village surrounded by picturesque rocks on all sides has been experiencing jazz-fans' and hippy' invasions every year since 2000. The local population – mostly Crimean and Tatar farmers – were well-prepared to cell tons of sweet grapes, muscat-wines, honey, and delicious foods... Well, take a look at the Koktebel Jazz Festival album in our Picture Gallery, and look at the information below to learn more about the Festival.

Dmitry Alexandrov The Project

An innovative project Jazz @ the Speed of Light united Jazz players and music fans from all the corners of the world with gurus of Internet technologies this time. The project was *hosted by the 4th Annual international Koktebel Jazz Festival in Crimea, Ukraine (September 14-17,2006). For the first time in history, the world-renowned jazz musicians performed live on the main stage of the festival together with other jazz celebrities located in remote studios across Europe connected via the Internet. Musicians were able to see each other on the screens, and could hear high-quality sound, as if they were on the same stage.

The whole event has become possible owing to the Musigy Music Conferencing™ technology which delivers ultra-low time delays and precise synchronization during the transmission of high-quality digital audio streams over the Internet. "Jazz @ the Speed of Light" has become the first Internet concert to break geographical boundaries and let the music be heard worldwide in real time.Alex Kozlov
